Just a quick post to let you know that we’re fine and traveling down the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. Services (including marinas) are practically non-existent – we have stayed at a few but we have also been anchoring out and using the generator – a few days last week and today (9/11) until Saturday night when we get to Paducah.
On Sunday we will arrive in Green Turtle Bay Marina in Kentucky. We plan to stay there for most of the week so I will have an opportunity to update my blog, including photos.
We will need to figure out a new plan as to where to go next as there was an oil spill (9/9) in one of the locks on the Tenn-Tom Waterway. Clean-up is expected to take 1-3 weeks. Hopefully the clean-up will be ahead of schedule.
Hi Susan!
Always enjoy reading your posts. My husband was just asking me the other day how you guys were doing. Sorry to hear about the oil spill! Don’t understand how you can avoid that! We had a hot day in NY today- glad there was no rain for the 9/11 memorials.
How is the dog doing? And your husband? I can’t remember why he had to go to an urgent care a while back, but whatever it was, I hope he is better!
Take care- keep posting!!

Hi Betty, There is nothing we can do about the oil spill except wait until the lock is clean. However, we decided to take a side trip to Chattanooga and by the time we get there and back to where we need to be to head south, the lock should be ready. Kodey (our dog) is a trooper. Other loopers have decided he is the best boat dog they have met – easy, low maintenance and basically sleeps while we travel. Peter’s back is doing well, close to 100% now so no more cane.

Happy to hear the captain’s back is better. Chattanooga is a really nice city. Pat and I spent a night and day there last year. Be well.

Hi Susan and Pete, I love reading your blog. Hope Pete’s back is better. This sounds like such an adventure! I hope there is another route you can take to avoid the oil spill. What will you guys do for the holidays? Will you fly home or to family? My boss is a boating guy. He has a sailboat and also a boat similar to yours and he knows some people who have done “The Loop” and the flew home for the holidays, that’s why I was wondering. Safe travels!

Hi Paula, Glad you enjoy the blog. Peter is close to 100% now and no longer using a cane. Yes, this is an adventure and we are having a great time. Can’t avoid the oil spill but have decided to take a side trip to Chattanooga in the meantime. When it is time to head south again, the lock should be ready. Our plans for the winter are to spend them in Florida – split time between the west and east coasts. Our kids rented a house in Cape Coral from 12/28-1/4 so we will have a late Christmas with them. Our son is in Virginia and our daughter is in San Diego so having them come to us will be nice . Our granddaughters are off for two weeks so our son figured why not have a winter vacation where it is warm. Easier for us too because of the dog.
